Thanksgiving Cookie Set - Indians & Pilgrims

My favorite holiday is on the way! Thanksgiving has been my favorite holiday since I was a child. I'm known for bringing chunky apple cranberry sauce to the Thanksgiving meal and cookies to add to dessert (since I'm not a pumpkin pie fan). This soft chocolate cookie makes a great backdrop for decorating cookies.
Melt 3/4 cup of butter in a small sauce pan with 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar, 2 cups of chocolate chips and 2 T of water.  Remove from heat and rest 10 minutes.  Combine 2 eggs with melted chocolate mixture and add 1 1/4 t of baking soda & 3 cups of flour.  Refrigerate dough for 1 hr.  Roll into walnut sized balls, place on parchment paper and bake for 8min at 350F.
While the cookie dough chills for an hour, melt white candy melts to pipe the feathers for the Indians and turkeys. I melt, mix color and add to a small Ziploc- snipping the corner and piping onto wax paper. I mixed teal and orange, so I had 3 piping bags. As the orange began to harden, I molded a few turkey beaks.
When you remove the cookies from the oven, immediately place a pink candy melt in the center of the cookie. As the candy disc melts, place the candy eyes. I used an assortment of sprinkles for brown, blue and green eyes. The tip of the candy melt will be the Pilgrim and Indian's nose.
Mix a few colors of frosting to pipe hair, mouths, headbands and hats (brown, yellow, dark pink, white, black) and place the frosting in a Ziploc. Snip a small corner and pipe.
The turkey heads are warmed Tootsie Rolls. Place in the microwave for about 10 seconds to warm and then the Tootsie Roll is easy to mold.
Place the turkey feathers while the candy melts is still partially melted/warm.
The Indian Chief is my favorite in this set.

Fresh Fruit Easter Platters

Easter is coming up and you know what that means? It means I have not created much since Christmas. I knew there would come a time that I'd slow down on this blog, but there are a few things about this blog that never slow down; one is the bunny head fresh fruit platter. This platter has been shared and recreated countless times and I love to see it done by friends, family and strangers. Get your fruit ready and let's make a colorful addition to your Easter table!
The original bunny fruit platter:
Already tried the bunny ready to move on to the chick? Click here for step-by-step instructions.
It's funny to me to see any of these show up on Pinterest Fail, becase I don't see this as a failure:

Love how the kids got involved on The Little Things Journal

Crafty Morning made it the day after her aunt made one!

The Produce Mom recreated the bunny head in November. It's good year-round!

Even my twin sister made the bunny platter for Easter! She's a great cook, but I definitely got more of the artistic side.
You can find even more here when I asked people to share to Facebook two years ago. So, show me what you've got. I want to see your fresh fruit platter creations. Post a link in the comments or comment on Facebook!

Peanut Butter Reindeer Cookies with Hershey's Kisses

I tossed a bag of Hershey's Kisses into my grocery cart a couple of weeks ago thinking I'd make Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies this holiday season. I've made Peanut Butter Cookies, but I've never made the kind with the Hershey's Kiss in the center...until today!  While the traditional cookies were cooling on the rack, I couldn't help but see a reindeer face in the making. You MUST make these for your little ones this year!

Ski season is finally underway in Colorado after a full week delay for opening at Vail and Beaver Creek Resorts. I have a winter toolkit ready for a tired body after a day on the slopes and I found everything I needed at my local Target. We are lucky enough to live in the mountains, so skiing is only minutes away and trails are right outside our front door. There's just as much to do in the winter, as there is all summer. That means there is little downtime for a sore body!

Back-to-School Spirit...Who You Gonna Call?

Back-to-School is 10 days away and to get in the spirit, we've called in the Ghostbusters. With the release of the new Ghostbusters movie in theaters now, I wanted my kids to be able to watch the original to get the full appreciation for Ghostbusters. I set up a fun snack-bar for Saturday morning viewing; including a Kellogg's Froot Loops station, movie candy with MARS and a Stay Puft Marshmallow man craft.

Summer Road Trip Ready with Pennzoil®

My favorite travel in the high country is in the summer to get to hiking trails. With rugged dirt roads and sometimes congested Interstate, it's important to be able to rely on my vehicle to get me where I want to go play! Now that my SUV has turned 100k miles, it's even more important to keep an eye on my car care...

Fourth of July Blueberry & Cherry Bars

This is a dessert my mom has made for years, that I had never tried to make...until she went out of town...and I couldn't get the recipe from her. The vanilla cake has a fine, light texture and it is perfect delivery vehicle for the cherry or blueberry pie filling. I've only had cherry bars, but cherry filling isn't my favorite, so I thought I'd explore with blueberry.  Turns out, this is the perfect festive Fourth of July dessert to take to your holiday outdoor BBQ.

Lemon Blueberry Crepes - clean up made easier with Scotch-Brite!

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #ScrubDishCloth #CollectiveBias
I love making crepes for my kids for breakfast. It is their favorite breakfast and they'll eat them every single day. Today, I mixed it up and made a lemon blueberry crepe. I am usually rushing around the kitchen to get the crepes made and running out the door to get to work with the mess left behind. The dried crepe batter is a bit like cleaning up plaster and I'm left scraping it away from the counter with my fingernails. I found a great product to help with clean up- even the days I leave the dried mess behind. Come check it out and find the crepe recipe later in the post.

Green Tea Party - Kale Quinoa Crispy Avocado Salad and Matcha Cupcakes

Ahhhh....Spring- the mixed weather, the allergies, the last few weeks of school, the weekend doubleheader baseball games. I woke up this morning to the sound of thunder and pulled the covers back over my head. So much for a trail run followed by a bike ride on the way to afternoon baseballs games. Perfect day for sleeping in and trying some new recipes, instead....
