Blood, Sweat & Cheer - Fit to Play!

The great thing about staying fit is being ready to play!  I never run out of opportunities to get outside and take advantage of all of the trails and sports that I love.  Whether it is getting down and dirty in the mud (and a little bloodied on the legs from sharp rocks in the mud) or dressed in white for a round of golf, one thing always has me covered...

Chick Fresh Fruit Platter

Here's what is great about these fresh fruit platters...a lot of people find them very do-able.  I know a lot of what I make for my blog involves pain-staking details that most people will admire, but maybe not think they could or world ever make themselves.  For this reason, I have really enjoyed creating these fruit platters for your Easter table inspiration. Not only do they add a bright pop of color, it's HEALTHY!

Ladybug Party

I ran into my friend Kelly at the grocery store on Valentine's Day.  We started talking about her daughter's upcoming 1 year old birthday party and she asked if I could help her with the cake.  Help with a cake?  Of course!  She was unaware of this blog, so I shared with her that she is actually featured in my blog.  She's the one who gifted me my favorite chocolate cookie recipe.  I used to work with her husband and he was like a brother to me and uncle to my young kids.  I don't see them much anymore, so I was delighted to help.  Except for one thing...

Yoga Cake

Yoga is a big part of my life.  So is my mom.  I started teaching yoga 3 years ago and my mom takes my classes.  Here, I have her in one of her favorite poses: Agnistambhasana or Double Pigeon/Fire Log.  She often jokes in class, "How come I can't do anything else, but I can do this pose?"  She blessed me with her open hips, attention to detail, and deep caring.  She spends most days piecing together the most beautiful quilts, so I wanted to work quilting into her cake, as well.

Colorado Flag Wood Sign

As a Colorado-loving native, this wooden sign has been on my to-do project list.  Seems like I pick up an interest for building projects around this time of year.  We made a quick trip to Home Depot for the lumber:  (2) 1x6 8' boards cut in half, (3) 1x3 18" for support.  We also bought a small can of espresso wood stain, green exterior stain and white.  I wasn't sure on my color palette before starting and I wanted to be prepared with options.

Snowboarder Cake Topper

I've decided that I like using modeling chocolate for sculpting figures.  The weight of the modeling chocolate make it a bit easier to create a sturdier standing figure.  Sturdy is important for a snowboarder figure.  While the snow isn't a good indication of winter around here, we're still in the thick of ski season, so my son wanted another snowboarder cake this year.  Last year he wanted to be sailing off a jump. This year, he wanted to be skimming across a rail.

Aloha Winter Wellness

While its turquoise water is something you might find on a Hawaiian beach, we are pretty far from the land of Aloha.  Most weekend winter days are spent on the slopes around here in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  Over the weekend, we ditched the ski gear and grabbed our spikes to head to one of the most popular trails in Colorado:  Hanging Lake Trail.  Hanging Lake is located in Glenwood Canyon, just east of Glenwood Springs, CO.  The trail is only about a mile long to get to the lake, so it is heavily trafficked by visiting tourists.  The stunning turquoise color is caused by dissolved carbonate minerals in the water.  C'mon...it gets even better...

How do you show your love?

That's an easy one...baking.  My mom shows love with cooking and cleaning.  I find baking more interesting than cleaning.   I like the way I can express my creativity with sugar, flour, eggs, and piping bags of frosting.  If I make a whole dessert table for you, watch out!  It's like being embraced with a thousand hugs and smacked with a thousand kisses.

2015 World Ski Championship Cookies

The countdown is on...actually, it has been on for years.  If you live in this area, you've seen more 2015 bumper stickers than political campaign stickers.  Vail/Beaver Creek ski resorts are hosting the 2015 World Ski Championships February 2-15, 2015.  We felt it needed a cookie.
