Description

Bobby Flay’s cranberry sauce elevates holiday traditions with a spicy Mexican twist. Jalapeños add bold heat that complements the sauce’s tart cranberry base, creating a memorable condiment that sparks conversation and delights dinner guests.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (454 grams) cranberries
  • 1 ¼ cups (250 grams) sugar
  • ¼ cup (60 milliliters) chopped pickled jalapenos

Spices and Seasonings:

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Kosher salt

Citrus and Liquid:

  • 1 lime (zest and juice)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 milliliters) pickled jalapeno brine

Instructions

  1. Combine most of the cranberries in a medium saucepan, reserving 1 cup (240 milliliters) for later addition.
  2. Pour lime juice, granulated sugar, ground cumin, a delicate sprinkle of salt, chopped jalapeños with their brine, and 1/4 cup (60 milliliters) of water into the saucepan.
  3. Ignite medium heat and allow the mixture to gently simmer, stirring intermittently.
  4. Continue cooking until cranberries rupture and the sauce transforms into a thick, glossy consistency, approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
  5. Introduce the remaining 1 cup (240 milliliters) of whole cranberries, stirring carefully to integrate.
  6. Maintain heat until the newly added cranberries soften and become slightly tender, roughly 3 to 4 minutes.
  7. Remove the saucepan from heat source and delicately fold in freshly grated lime zest.
  8. Transfer the cranberry relish to a serving container and allow it to cool completely at room temperature.
  9. Refrigerate the mixture for a minimum of 3 hours to enhance flavor melding and achieve optimal serving temperature.

Notes

  • Simmer sauce gently to develop rich, complex flavors that meld perfectly.
  • Fresh cranberries bring vibrant tartness and beautiful color to the dish.
  • Experiment with heat levels by adding jalapeños sparingly, tasting as you go.
  • Customize sweetness by gradually incorporating sugar, allowing natural berry tang to shine through.
