Away for the Holidays - Gifting

The holidays are never quite the same when the kids are away with the other parent.  It hasn't happened very many of these 10 years apart, but for us, away means states away and sometimes half a world away.  I had already decided I wasn't going to get the big tree out this year and decorating might be minimal.  My gift to the kids was going to be a trip to NYC for New Years.  Times Square this New Years seems like too much of a target, so we postponed the trip and I decided I'd better Christmas shop and decorate the house.
They'll be home for a few days this week and then off again until the 28th.  We'll open a few gifts in a few days, but I still want them to feel like they got something from "Santa".  Now that they are approaching their teens, they are in that weird stage of too big for most toys and clothes as gifts are a let down.  What do you get for the tech savvy kid who plays a bunch of sports, knows the truth behind Santa and is going to be away for the holidays?  I found something that can be delivered to them by Santa on Christmas even though they'll be 1500 miles away....

A digital eGift Card delivered by a digital Santa, of course!  You've got to see the Santa video...
TheGiftCardShop.com is not only easy to navigate, it took only a few minutes to pick out a gift card and send it on its way.  In fact, within 15 minutes, start-to-finish, the eGift Card was delivered to my email.  Locate the "eGift Cards" tab highlighted in blue below:
Scroll through and select your eGift Card.  There is a nice selection of retailers, restaurants and movie theaters.  Do you want to send a gift to someone, but you only have their email and not their physical address?  Easy!  Think babysitters, dog walkers, fitness instructors (hint, hint), teachers, the oh-crap-I-forgot-about-that-person people.  My son will gladly spend a Nike gift card.  Select "Digital Gift Card" and click the "Personalize" box below:
eGift Cards aren't just for the holidays, you can select birthday greetings, thank yous, weddings, get well, etc.  Send a digital greeting card along with the eGift Card or a video like I sent...which is free with the purchase of the eGift Card:
Hmmmmm....naughty or nice video?  The naughty one is kind of funny, but don't want to risk hurting feelings since I won't be there.  I seleted the "nice" Santa video.
It will take you to a screen to input personalized information such as recipient's name, age, location, interests and why they've been naughty or nice.  Since I don't want this eGift Card delivered until Christmas, I put my email as the recipient and sender and then I'll forward to my son on December 24th.
Santa has gone digital and received a Facebook message from me!
The video closes with this digital postcard:
Next, you'll get to the review screen, add to cart, check out (registered or as a guest), select payment and receive confirmation immediately.
Six minutes later, the email for my son was in my inbox.  I think he'll enjoy this little surprise Christmas Eve or Christmas morning and it will remind him that I'm still with him in spirit.  Take the pressure away this holiday and send an eGift Card from TheGiftCardShop.com!  No waiting in lines in parking lots, standing in lines at the checkout, gather shipping supplies or standing in line at the post office to ship.  Just a few clicks and you're done!

  1. It is definitely hard being away from your kids, but it's so nice that you can send them this, so they know you're thinking about them! And who wouldn't LOVE a gift card?! #client
