Attention to PLAID!

We are going to share with you today how to bring the plaid trend up-to-date in your home; from decor to clothing, crafting and even personal care!  I thought a good place to start is with the trendiest of them all in our household:  my son.  His bed is bookend-ed:  right side plugged in and left side unplugged.  One end he's mindlessly engaged with Xbox, iPad, iPhone, and iPod (sometimes all at once, as seen below).  The other side of the room offers more mindful activities like weights, desk for drawing, guitar, and reading, but it was stacked floor to ceiling with 8 full-sized totes filled with items for a yard sale.
It was time to shift his attention from the right side, back to the left side. One way to draw his attention back to the more mindful side is to make it feel new and just as comfortable.  Time to get the old stuff out of the way.
He spent a school  night at a Rockies game earlier in the week, so my daughter and I had a girls' night- which included a trip to Target to check out the trending plaid.  While at Target, the first splash of plaid was an endcap of LISTERINE® decked in plaid packaging.  Do you know brushing alone misses 75% of the mouth?  It's important to promote flossing and rinsing twice a day with a mouthwash like LISTERINE® Antiseptic.  Maybe if he wakes up around a splash of plaid, he'll be reminded to swish with a splash of plaid!
I scrolled through my Cartwheel app to find 10% off  LISTERINE® through the end of October.  The special purchase was buy 3 get one free, so we grabbed one of each color.
We had a good time browsing Target for more plaid.  We found plaid in housewares:
More plaid popped up in gift wrap, clothing...even in the mail when we got home!  Check out the plaid trend all over Target this season!
We spent some time this weekend working on a plaid quilt at Grandma's house.  Both kids have learned to sew with Grandma and have made their own quilts and quilt blocks.  Today, they helped out with some applique work.  Here he is ironing on the cabin:
My daughter cutting the applique pattern for the trees:
He removed the paper back and placed the trees.
Press with a hot iron for 10 seconds.  Great way to dress up fabrics, clothing, quilts and more!
After spending most of the day Saturday cleaning the garage and moving the totes to the top shelves in the garage to make space, he reclaimed his other corner.  I moved the new beanbag up to his room and spruced up the space with the plaid.
He thinks he's pretty cool.  I love that he isn't too cool to sew a plaid quilt.
The red quilt on the bed is a no-sew fleece quilt his sister made for him for Christmas last year.  Do you have plaid pieces from years past to bring into the present plaid trend?
He's digging this corner of the room now and spending more time plugging into interests instead of checking out with games and other distractions.  Draw your attention back to what inspires you.  Let LISTERINE® inspire your plaid decorating this fall!
