My Grilling "Veg of Allegiance" with Morning Star Farms

It is the perfect weather for grilling- too hot to turn on the oven!  I thought I'd try an alternative to the traditional BBQ this weekend and serve all veggie foods.  This is a vegetarian lovin' BBQ right here!  Not so sure meatless can be delicious???  Come find out...

I found all of the ingredients I needed for this meal in one quick trip to Target.
I picked up a package of Morning Star Farms Grillers Crumbles, Spicy Blackbean Burger, Mediterranean Chickpea and Chik Patties.
The condiments and bread were located in the same grocery aisle- easy!
Who knew the Blackbean burgers could go right on the grill??  Grill marks and all!
Lettuce wraps are one of my favorite springtime/summer picnic meals and I've found I love replacing the ground turkey with Grillers Crumbles, found in the freezer section at Target. This veggie cuisine has mushroom-y texture and picks up the flavor of the other ingredients really well.
Ingredients:  Living Lettuce, MorningStar Starter, low sodium soy sauce, chopped garlic, ginger, water chestnuts, garlic chili sauce, and cilantro.
Heat the meatless starter in a pan over medium heat.  It heats quickly!  Add 2-3 Tablespoons of soy sauce.  Chop 1-2 inches of fresh ginger, 1 teaspoon of minced garlic, 3/4 small can of water chestnuts diced.  Add to meatless mixture.  Add 1/2 teaspoon of garlic chili sauce (more if you want to kick up the spice).  Top with fresh chopped cilantro.  Serve on living lettuce leaves.  Living lettuce is sold with its roots intact- allowing moisture and nutrients to continue supplying nourishment to the plant.  It stays fresh longer and the texture of butter lettuce is a little softer/sturdier (perfect for wraps) than the lettuce you may be used to.  My kids peel the leaves away and snack on them.  I guess the roots make it a novelty and more interesting- whatever it takes to get them to reach for lettuce over licorice!  Can't find living lettuce?  My second choice is romaine.  Total prep time is around 10 minutes!
My favorite, the Mediterranean Chickpea, is dressed between an English muffin with a slice of fresh mozzarella, slice of tomato and fresh basil leaf.  The kids favorite, Chik Pattie, is served in a regular bun with pickle, tomato and lettuce.  My mom's favorite, Spicy Blackbean Burger, is generously topped with homemade guacamole.  The lettuce wraps were the overall favorite served with a side of quinoa/amaranth/millet salad.  Happy healthy eating1
