Fresh Spring Mantel

I wasn't really liking the way I had transitioned the Easter mantel to spring.  I had swapped the frame with a gold frame around the moss wreath.  The gold really drew the eye to the wreath, but I just couldn't wrap my head around the gold.  I'm not big on gold.  The four bird nests around the wreath made it look a little too Easter-y and I had a couple of candle holders that just didn't belong.

With zero attachment to the gold frame, I brought it down from the mantel and coated the inner edge with turquoise paint.  Better, but still too much gold, so I painted the outside green and highlighted the green with teal- allowing a tad bit of gold to show through as extra highlights.
Sooooo much better.
I moved three of the egg nests and clustered them at the bottom of the wreath with a blue bird in the center.
The butterflies and fairies are cookies.
Yes, I decorated with cookies!
It's just the right balance of nature & spring color.
I can live with this one for a while.  The kids are out on Spring Break and we've accumulated about 5" of snow so far today.
Happy Spring!

  1. I really love how you incorporated real mini pieces of log into the mantel - combined with the mossy wreath it adds such a natural touch. I also love the springy fresh colours and bunting. Great job!
