While hiking and gathering multi-colored aspen leaves this fall, we found this cool piece of wood off the trail and strapped it to one of our packs. I wanted to see if I could somehow preserve the color of the leaves before they dried and curled. After cleaning the wood, we grabbed the Mod Podge and a foam brush and started placing the leaves on the piece of wood.
Seemed like it might actually work....
With so many extra leaves, I grabbed an old canvas I had discarded for the frame. I almost threw the hideous canvas away and then thought I might use it someday for something.
Here's my daughter finishing up "her side" of the canvas that we'd use for our fall mantel.
This is the following morning- Mod Podge dried.
The piece of wood is gorgeous and rests on a window sill. In the photo at the top of the post, you can see the four leaf clover we also found that day on the hike and placed with the aspen leaves.
It was one of my all time favorite hikes with my family and now I have a piece of art to remind me of that day and how lucky we are to have one another.
