I've been using my mom's recipe since I was a kid and my brothers would beg me to bake chocolate chip cookies. I hadn't made them in so long, I had to call my mom for "my" (her) recipe.
2 cups of sugar
2 cups of lightly packed brown sugar
2 cups of shortening
1/2 cup of water
2 teaspoons of baking soda
2-3 teaspoons of vanilla extract
6 cups of flour
2 cups of chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350F. Cream together the sugar, brown sugar, and shortening. Butter is not the same. Butter flavored shortening is not the same. Trust me on this one- use the shortening. Better yet, 2 sticks of regular Crisco. Beat in 4 eggs. Add 2 teaspoons of baking soda to a half cup of warm water (so the baking soda dissolves in the water) and then add vanilla extract. I always add a little extra flavoring/extract to my baking. The recipe calls for 2 teaspoons and I add closer to 3. Stir. Add 6 cups (plus an extra half-full cup for high altitude baking). Stir. Add chocolate chips. Stir.
Bake for approximately...hmmmm...I don't time it. I remove just before they turn golden- when they are still gooey.
