Jewelry Box makeover

This jewelry box was a $4 Thrift Store find by my daughter. It sure threw me back to my childhood. My mom had one just like it when I was a girl and I remember pulling out the little drawer and organizing her jewelry in the different velvety compartments.
But, boy, was this one ugly. The metallic gold/red/teal fabric was...ewww. I asked her if I could make it a project and we'd paint it and switch out the fabric.
I removed the hardware, popped the fabric/mirror off to re-upholster, and lightly sanded everything. Then I painted with 2 coats of Valspar Well Water in satin finish.
She chose a piece of Michael Miller fabric we purchased but still hadn't put to good use. It was a perfect color combination with the paint and orange insides:
I told her I want to keep it.

  1. Love the bright colors you picked. I have a couple of old jewelry boxes that you could a re-do, your project reminded me that I should do something with them.

  3. Sandy, the handles were secured with two tiny nails. They popped right off with a little pry from a screwdriver and secured again nicely when I was finished painting.

  5. I love your beautiful jewelry box! That color of blue is so bright and pretty. I hope it's okay, I just couldn't help but feature it in my jewelry box makeover round-up.

  6. I had (ok, still have) that same jewelry box! Mine doesn't have an exciting orange interior though!
What a fun color combo - perfect for actually putting on your nightstand (instead of hiding it away in shame)!!
    Love it!

  7. I love this! I have an old thrift store jewelry box that I turned into craft storage, but honestly, I think yours turned out way cuter!

  8. I didn't see yours until after I did my own makeover, but we chose similar colors. Bright colors for the win! See mine at:
